Migrating to OEL8

Migrating to OEL8

Oracle WMS users are receiving communications from Oracle requiring them to test their mobile devices’ connections to a new environment using OEL8.

Enterprise Users who run their Android mobile devices on Ivanti’s Velocity TE emulation client, or StayLinked’s SmartTE emulation client, may be negatively impacted, with constant interruptions and downtime.

For Windows CE/Mobile devices running Wavelink’s TelnetCE clients, Oracle erroneously recommends to customers to replace their devices.

First off, supporting the new OEL8 security features is not dependent on the devices’ operating system but the terminal emulation client alone.

Therefore, Windows CE/Mobile devices are perfectly capable of connecting to the new OEL8 enviroment from Oracle by removing Wavelink’s software and installing Georgia SoftWorks’ terminal emulation software. There is no need to replace the Windows CE devices.

Android devices that fail to connect to the new Oracle OEL8 environment, or that experience frequent session drops, should migrate to Georgia SoftWorks’ terminal emulation clients.

Although Velocity TE clients could probably be upgraded to a newer version that supports OpenSSH_8, Ivanti would most likely force their customers to switch to their new subscription-based licensing model. Emulation software is not suitable for a subscription-based model. Simply put, it is absolutely unacceptable to open the possibility of halting a Distribution Center’s operation due to expired subscriptions. Furthermore, as of 2H25, Ivanti’s ConnectPro session persistence server is reported to frequently halt and cause more problems that it is supposed to solve.
